Young Carers

Young Carer One-to-One Support

Being a young carer can be rewarding, but it can also bring challenges that other young people may not experience.

Many young carers help look after a parent, sibling, grandparent, or another family member who may have a disability, illness, mental health condition, or additional support needs.

Our Young Carer One-to-One Support service provides personalised support tailored to your individual circumstances, helping you access information, guidance, and practical help whilst supporting your wellbeing.

What Is One-to-One Support?

One-to-one support gives young carers the opportunity to speak with a dedicated Young Carer Support Worker in a safe, supportive, and confidential environment.

We take the time to understand your situation and work alongside you to identify the support that may help you most.

Every young carer’s situation is different, which is why our support is tailored to your individual needs.

How We Can Help

Our Young Carer Support Workers can provide:

  • Emotional support and someone to talk to
  • Advice and guidance about your caring role
  • Help understanding your rights as a young carer
  • Support with education and school-related concerns
  • Information about local services and activities
  • Signposting to specialist support services
  • Help accessing assessments and additional support
  • Advocacy to help ensure your voice is heard

We are here to listen, support, and help you navigate the challenges that can come with being a young carer.

Supporting Your Wellbeing

Looking after someone else can sometimes affect your own wellbeing.

You may experience:

  • Stress or worry
  • Feelings of isolation
  • Difficulty balancing school and caring responsibilities
  • Anxiety about the person you care for
  • Challenges finding time for yourself

Our support workers can help you explore ways to manage these challenges and identify support that can make a positive difference.

Support at School and Education

We understand that caring responsibilities can sometimes impact education. We can help you:

  • Understand support available within school or college
  • Explore ways to balance caring and learning
  • Access additional support where appropriate
  • Build confidence in discussing your caring role with education providers

Every young person deserves the opportunity to achieve their goals whilst receiving the support they need.

Helping You Access Opportunities

Being a young carer should not prevent you from enjoying opportunities, making friends, and participating in activities that are important to you. Our team can help you access:

  • Young carer groups
  • Activities and events
  • Wellbeing support
  • Educational opportunities
  • Community services
  • Additional specialist support

You’re Not Alone

Many young carers feel that nobody understands what they are experiencing.

Through one-to-one support, you will have someone who understands the challenges young carers face and can help you access the right support at the right time.

We are here to ensure young carers feel recognised, supported, and valued.

How to Access Support

If you are a young carer, or if you know a young person who helps care for someone, our team can help.

We will discuss your situation, understand your needs, and help identify the most appropriate support available.
